Electric Counterpoint, 3

I listen to a late night programme from Sunday - Thursday called the Blue of the Night, on RTE Lyric Fm. The presenter, Paul Herriot plays all kinds of music, jazz, classical, off-beat, movie torch songs -the variety is endless. One track he plays on quite a regular basis is Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint, movement 3. I've been looking for a reasonable version on You-tube and found this one.

A firm favourite, this one. Great driving music. And all credit to Pat Metheny who brings it to us.

I heard Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians back in the 1980s, and I've been a keen listener since then. I also enjoy Terry Riley's music, and I remember hearing a version of 'In C' played by our tour guide on a bus coming down from Trona into Death Valley. Weirdly appropriate.

I have a couple of Steve Reich CDs - Different Trains and Music For 18 Musicians. I need to be in the mood, but I like them, and I enjoyed this piece.

I must look up 'Music for 8 Musicians' and 'In C'.

Thanks for sharing that guys, something to mull over when I'm trying to avoid writing this so-called masterpiece for the end of course.

I think Steve Reich is better without moving pictures. Just the music will do... His music is really fantastic.
(I'm part of the BWBD, by the way, that's how I found this site)
