Toddle on over to Eyewear, to see a brand new poem by me!
Many thanks to the ever prescient Eyewear, aka Todd Swift, for the promotion.
Every Friday, Todd introduces a different poet and a poem of theirs. Wouldn't it be great if some day there was a published collection of all these contemporary gems...? You know, like Ruth Padel's 52 Ways of Looking at a poem - only different...

That was really good. The ending reminded me of Gordon Brown though. xx
Fantastic poem, Barbara - really strong.
I love poems about maggots! This is a fantastic one. Love the energy in it and the detailed descriptions that don't waver from telling the truth. The very raw truth in this case. Yes I agree with the comment above - a very strong (and well-formed) poem.
Brilliant, Babs. Very evocative. And your eyes have never looked as blue!
I tried to leave a comment in your boxy thingy but it's not playing. Bah!
Yes your eyes are stunning in that shot!
It's a really strong poem, I like the line about future carbon emissions. Death is just as messy as living so it seems.
I may nick that photo for your interview!
Thanks for your lovely comments guys, the blue eyes are probably due to the jumper I'm wearing... picks up the hue, don't you know ;)
Cheers everyone!
"giddied passers by"--beautiful, just beautiful. I won't forget this poem soon.
Your eyes, either...
Congratulations. Thanks for pointing it out. Hadn't seen the site from this side of the pond.
I really liked the forensic quality of this peom - maggots and all.
Thanks guys once more - I'm dead chuffed! I hadn't thought of it as being 'forensic' - that's a interesting take, mel!
