Oh bugger

Some poems come easier than others. Usually they come after about three or four aborted attempts, when you've stopped thinking about what it is that you were trying to put into a poem. That doesn't make them any less hard-earned though. I seem to remember Richard Hugo talking about this in his book, The Triggering Town. That book is a collection of essays on poetry and is well worth getting. I remember buying Strunk & White at the same time... gosh, four years ago now, oh dearie me, how much poetry water has flowed past the bridge now, eh?

Well, tomorrow I'm on Dundalk FM again , Wednesday 7th January, talking about the Bursary I won and maybe reading a few poems, at 10:45 To listen via the internet, click on this link, and then click on the second 'Click Here' in the second paragraph.

I would give you the link directly but blogger is playing silly buggers. I will try and record it later on, if I can... I might pop in a poem tomorrow when I'm not feeling so critical.

Good luck. Travelling to the Cairngorms tomorrow, so I won't get the chance to listen.

OLA, my friend. Just stopping by, hoping that you are happy and doing well and keeping Ireland furnished with lots of things to ponder!

I wish I didn't have to work full time and could listen to you on the Internet. Alas, I would find myself in such trouble if I tried to do that at work! :-0

And I'm not brilliant enough to figure out what time that might be in the USA.

Take care! Read with joy!

Don't worry BFS, I think you'll probably still be in bed :)

Colin, thanks for the good wishes, enjoy the Cairngorms!

You were great! And you read your poetry beautifully! I really liked the Credit Crunch one.

Thank you Clare, great to know that you were listening over in the UK!

I'm quite pleased with that credit crunch one, it has a sort of breathless rhythm and is also terza rima... I love talking to Harry, it's like having a chat with someone you haven't seen in ages :)

Hi Barbara,
Just got back on to Blogger this minute after 3 days of enforced, out-of-my-hands abstinence ; )
Missed the show by an hour or so...will they save it to listen to later?
And well done on being back on air again...I remember hearing Harry before - he does seem lovely : )

It is repeated tonight at 10.45pm, but I am hoping to record it and post it up again for folks who couldn't listen live this morning, Liz.

It was an interesting interview and I got to read three poems too: bonus!

Great stuff Barbara, you read beautifully, and fair play to Harry he's a great listener. Third poem ending with the Roethke line was my fave, the fluidity of the poem pooled into it nicely..Be da way didn't know what time ya were on and I had to listen to fekin Status Quo and Gloria Gaynor among others but it was worth the sufferin' in d'end.I'm a bit more clued up on d'economy too which was an unexpected bonus!

Yeah I know, TFE, the music leaves a lot to be desired sometimes, but their heart really is in the right place! Very glad you were able to tune in :)
